The Bajo people are known as the sea wanderers because they always wander the sea. However, beside their unique characteristic as the sea people, the Bajo are also known as Muslims. Therefore, Islam becomes the important element in their identity either reflected in their daily life or already written in the Lontarak Assalenna Bajo manuscript as the form of self-narration of their life history. Islam was accepted through negotiation and development process with their identity construction. The Bajo people were not Muslim by their origin before they became the sea wanderer people. They received the influence of Islam from the land people surrounding them as a result of their contact with the land people.
